I am not dead yet!!! Yes, I know I haven't updated in a (long) while, but I have had this huge writer's block, not to mention school. Anyway, here it is, chapter 5.
Chapter 5
"Wh...What?" Matthias said shakily. Standing before him was a mirror version of himself. In fact, it was almost perfect, save for the clothes and the smirk on his doppelganger's face. "Who...what are you?" Matthias repeated. "I already told you who I am and I don't like repeating myself," the doppelganger said. Matthias took a deep breath and steadied himself. "What do you want with me?" Matthias asked as calmly as possible.
"Well, I was hoping we could get together you know? Have some tea and crumpets, maybe a beer or two," the doppelganger replied sarcastically. Matthias was not amused. The doppelganger scoffed. "Well, if you really wanted to know, I was hoping that we could work together, but it seems now I'll have to kill you."
"And how are you planning on doing that?" Matthias asked defiantly. The doppelganger smirked. "Like this." He held out his right hand and his robe seemed to shimmer as darkness began gathering in his hand. Not liking whatever his doppelganger was about to do, Matthias tried to rush him.
Seeing Matthias, the doppelganger chuckled as suddenly, the darkness gathering burst, sending a shock wave that knocked Matthias back. When Matthias got back on his feet, his eyes widened as he found his opponent wielding a wicked looking black sword. The glow of the red gem in the pommel matched that of the blood red sky above them. "Now then," the doppelganger said as he slowly advanced upon Matthias. "Be a 'good' boy and die quietly."
BOOM!
Matthias had barely enough time to jump to the side as the doppelganger brought his sword into a powerful downward slash. As the dust cleared, he looked in both fear and awe at the fissure in the ground where he had just been. "So you decided to resist huh?" the doppelganger whispered as he turned to face Matthias once more. Matthias flinched under the cold gaze of his counterpart. Suddenly, he began to laugh. At first, it was a soft chuckle, but soon it turned into full blown maniacal laughter. "HeheheheheAHAHAHAHAHA! FINE THEN! LET'S SEE HOW LONG YOU CAN ENTERTAIN ME EH?" And with that, the doppelganger lunged at Matthias.
He dodged, barely, but he didn't expect his enemy to suddenly turn around and kick him right in the stomach. The force of the kick sent him flying back a few feet and as soon as he landed, her quickly rolled to the side to avoid a sudden downward stabbed. "Oho...Your instincts are pretty sharp. Lets see how good they are after I've separated your internals organs from your body!" the doppelganger exclaimed as he tried to pull his sword out of the ground. Seeing his chance, Matthias started running through the destroyed town. Hearing a sound from behind him, he quickly dodged to the side again to avoid being sliced in half. "You can't run away~," his doppelganger said in an almost singsong tone. "Where are your precious friends now?" the doppelganger asked mockingly.
"..."
Matthias kept silent, trying to focus on finding a way out of the situation. Unfortunately, no matter how hard he thought, he couldn't figure a way out. Even if he made it out of his current location, there was no telling what lay beyond the town, not to mention escaping his doppelganger was nigh impossible. The only choice left was to fight. "What's wrong? Cat got your tongue? That's a shame, I didn't get a chance to cut it out yet," the doppelganger said, laughing at his own twisted humor and breaking Matthias out of his thoughts. 'Well, I guess I have no choice,' Matthias thought as he steeled his nerves and dropped into a fighting stance.
Seeing this the doppelganger only gave a feral grin before lunging at Matthias. Matthias ducked the swing and tried to uppercut his opponent but was again kicked in the stomach before he could do it.
"Oof!" Matthias groaned. Before he could recover, the doppelganger attacked again, forcing Matthias to jump back and dodge. After a time of being forced backwards, Matthias suddenly found himself backed against a wall. The doppelganger only gave a short chuckle before preparing to deliver the finishing blow. Matthias desperately groped the area around him and his hands closed around a metal pipe. Thinking fast, Matthias swung, and managed to offset the doppelganger's swing enough to just barely miss his head. Quickly, Matthias rolled left and circled around to face the doppelganger once again.
"You plan to fight me with that metal stick?" the doppelganger asked after freeing his sword from the wall. Matthias said nothing as he continued to glare at him. "Heh, you're more suicidal than I thought." Matthias made the first move and charged headfirst towards the doppelganger. The doppelganger scoffed. In a flash, he slashed forward, sending a wave of dark energy surging forth and striking Matthias. Matthias screamed in agony as the wave hit him and blew him back. "You see now, how futile it is," the doppelganger said with a strange calm. "No one can help you, not now, not ever." Matthias struggled to get up, but his body was screaming in agony. "You can't even handle that single attack. Accept your fate and just die already."
'No...I...I don't want to die' Matthias thought. His whole body ached and he could barely stand. The pipe that he tried to defend himself with laid in front of him, cleaved neatly in two. He could hear his doppelganger's footsteps coming closer. He was helpless again. 'Please...someone...help me...please...HELP ME '
Matt...
The doppelganger slashed down but before he could connect, a bright light flashed around Matthias and to his annoyance, had found his sword parried again. "I won't...," Matthias began as he started to stand up. "I won't lose to you." In his hand, was a small sword, red hilt, shining steel blade.
"What? It can't be, unless...a spirit weapon!?" Matthias steadied his breathing as he glared defiantly at the doppelganger. "But it seems, the blade you are holding now, is just an empty vessel," the doppelganger scoffed in contempt. "Che, it seems that you don't even have a proper contract with your weapon."
"...It doesn't matter, as long as we're together, I won't lose," Matthias said determinately.
"You plan to defeat me with that toy?" the Doppelganger leered.
Matthias responded by charging at him. Moving on instinct, Matthias began a fierce battle with his double. Moving with new determination and vigor, he attacked relentless, allowing him to slowly push his enemy back. The double managed to parry one of the blows and moved in for a counterattack. Seeing this, Matthias delivered a vicious spinning attack before his doppelganger could reach him, sending the dark being hurtling back.
"Heh, it seems you have improved a bit," the doppelganger grunted as he got back on his feet. "But," he said, glancing at Matthias, "You are beginning to tire, it will not be long till your endurance runs out." Matthias glared at him, but he knew that his double was right. He needed to end this quickly. He closed his eyes and began focusing his energy into his blade.
The doppelganger knew what Matthias was trying to do and charged at him, attempting to down Matthias before he could finish. Matthias was concentrating hard, fully aware that he only had seconds before his enemy reached him. Finally, he felt a familiar feeling welling up inside of him. Opening his eyes, he met his opponent's charge with a swift downward slash. The moment he did, a fierce wave of energy blasted out of his sword. Unlike his doppelganger though, the wave was pure white and it devastated the ground in front of him. Panting, he waited for the dust to clear. Suddenly, he saw a shadow appear in the dust cloud in front of him, and before he could move, a sword had impaled him clear through the chest.
"Urgh!" Matthias groaned in pain.
"Hehe, you surprise me, but you really didn't think something like that would kill me did you?" his doppelganger said as the dust finally clear to reveal the specter completely unharmed. Matthias said nothing as he gripped his opponent's arm with one hand to steady himself from collapsing from pain. His doppelganger noticed and grinned. "You had a good run, but in the end, all things return to dar-urk!"
The double stopped mid-sentence as a sword pierced straight through his chest. Matthias gave a weak grin, blood down from his mouth. "Bastard!" the doppelganger gurgled as he tried to pull back but was startled to find out he couldn't. Holding on to his arm was Matthias. "Why you!" the doppelganger yelled as he weakly kicked Matthias in an attempt to get free. In his weakened state, Matthias was unable to hold on and fell backwards. "I...won't let you...win," Matthias whispered, unable to talk loudly through the pain. "Hypocrite," the doppelganger sneered as he clutched the wound on his chest. Matthias' only response was a weak chuckle. Wondering what was so funny, the doppelganger glanced at the bleeding wound in his chest, only to see a white light shining out of it. "SHI-"

This victory goes to you, however, don't think this means I'll be gone for good. I'll be back, and next time, you and your 'friends' will be mine.
Matthias woke in a cold sweat. Steadying his breathing, he looked around him and saw that he was in a familiar looking tent. The fire in the center had long since burned out, and its two other occupants were still slumbering peacefully. Matthias glanced at them before exiting the tent as quietly as possible. It was just beginning to dawn, and the rising sun lit up the rusty dust that surrounded Bangor. Sighing, Matthias leaned against the tent and gazed at the horizon.
'Matt? Is something wrong?' a voice in his head asked concernedly.
'Oh, Eiry...uh, nothing I guess' Matthias thought, unaware that he had subconsciously brought his sword with him.
'Oh...okay,' Eiry responded, not satisfied with the answer but not wanting to pry. They continued to sit in silence, gazing at the coming morning. After a time, Matthias broke the silence.
'Eiry...thank you.'
'Huh? For what?,' Eiry asked, confused. Matthias was silent for a few seconds.
'For everything, I guess.'
If she was corporeal at the moment, Eiry would have found a slight pink tinge on her cheeks.
'Uh, your welcome, I guess.'
The two sat in silence again, watching the sun as it finally cleared the horizon.
"Eiry," Matthias said aloud.

I'd rather write Graphic Novels though if it came to fanfic, you have a strong will to do this... I just can't imagine myself describing with so many words, I know its for immersion purposes, but... whatever, its just not my strong point!
