A warning to those who would try to siphon down the wiki
Hi, all.
In the past year and a little more, the server has had issues of some sort or another, leading some to create "offsite backups" of our page. While we appreciate the efforts which go into maintaining the material on this site and that there are those who want to make sure this material is available when we have trouble, we do not endorse these sites.
Far more importantly, neither do we endorse their activities to bring them into being. Some of which are rather... brute-force methods which are very hard on the server, even though the server is functioning at full and peak performance now.
The reason I bring this up now because I noticed a bit of activity which drove the load on the server up significantly to the point where it raised one of the server's physical alarms.
If you like the site that much, how about contributing to it, primarily by editing the site? Better still, how about money? It cost a bit of money to acquire this server and to keep it up and running.
Furthermore, if you reside outside Mabinogi North America's licensing area, the site staff and/or the server owner reserve the right to block access from these areas at their sole discretion. We do this not at Nexon's direction but entirely by our own volition. Besides, your version of the game may be substantially different from North America's, so consider starting your own wiki.
While Creative Commons licenses do allow you to ride on our coattails, please do not do this at the expense of the server.
A word of warning: If your activities manage to get my attention at the meatware level like what happened this evening, I will take whatever action is necessary to stop such activities. Any such action includes blocking your access at any layer of the OSI seven-layer cake.
Thank you for flying Mabinogi World.
--Ian, your friendly neighborhood server owner and admin.

Well, as they said it in TVTropes: "Beware The Nice Ones"
I wonder if posting the warning here will actually get the message across to the responsible party? They may be strictly a wiki-user/visitor after all.
Of course, us forum-users get the message loud and clear... *shivers*

Yeah, sorry about that, but I wanted at least one base covered.
In any event, a thermal event set off an audible alarm in the server, so I had to investigate. As such, I had to respond to what happened. Once I found out what the problem was, I decided to publicize my findings and give that rather... erm... "friendly" warning.
Anyway, that's what's happening.

Yeah, I was enjoying a nice and quiet post-apocalyptic evening, too.
On the other hand, I'm just grateful that I never had to do anything drastic like physically shut the server down. Other than that hiccup, things have been running fairly flawlessly. However, I may redo the thermal coating on the processor to be safe. I'll do that after-hours tonight so as not to interfere with anyone's activities.
